We baked cupcakes for Karsten's birthday party! My big kids helped wrap presents and we will celebrate at snack time today.
It's another no school day due to the extremely cold temperatures. We made igloos in art today using marshmallows and made ice cubes to try making real igloos. We talked about how people who live in cold climates survive, how they dress and some of the things they do to stay safe and warm.

Today we were polar bears and we hopped from ice berg to ice berg in an energy burning game we played to along with our winter theme. We did some freestyle painting at art and learned a little bit about temperatures at circle time.
We finished up our letter N and played a counting fuzzy game. Today we are having our ice party! We brought snow inside to play with and when it melted, we put it in the freezer to see if it would turn into snow again. We played a dress up snowman game and will be having ice cream at snack. We used Rice Krispies and almond bark to make snowballs for a treat.
Today we read another book Tina brought from home called The Hat about a hedgehog. We made hats in art to go along with the story and talked about why it's so important to keep our heads warm on really cold days like today.
Jen came home today so there were lots of snuggles and we looked at pictures of all the monuments, the White House, the US Treasury Building, the Capitol and the Supreme Court building. We talked a little bit about what happens at each building. Today we read a special mitten book Tina brought from home. We made mittens with animals inside just like the book in art. We played in our new tent and talked about how different animals stay warm in the winter and what kind of shelters, like our tent, they might use to stay protected from the weather.
Today Jen is gone and Brad and Tina are holding down the fort. It's a quiet day with only a few friends in attendance. We made snowmen in art and talked about temperature and how cold it needs to be for the snowmen not to melt. We read a book about warm clothes and played a mitten matching game.
Today we had a visit from our friend at the food program. She talked about fruits and veggies and we learned about portion sizes. We colored and cut out fruit and veggies patterns she brought us.
We learned a little about penguins today and played a penguin counting game at circle time. Today we introduced the number 12. We got our counting fuzzies out and practiced counting and sorting by 12s. We did a number 12 worksheet and introduced our new theme, Penguin party. We will be learning all about snow, animals in the winter and ice.
Today we introduced the letter N and went on a letter N hunt. We made a number game in art. We were stuck inside with the yucky weather today so we played some active games to burn some energy.
Today was our camping day so we built the tent and played in that for a while. We made s'mores snack mix to take home. We are finishing up our How Things Work theme. We made robots in art today and played a robot game. We got to spend some time outside today and play in the snow. We read a "fix it" book at circle time and talked about what kinds of things we can fix if they break and the different type of repair persons that help us fix things.
