We're super busy keeping up with our curriculum and working on our cookies. We made our almond bark pretzels today. We are continuing our 5 senses theme and still working on our sense of touch. We made texture books in art and felt many different textures in circle times thinking of all the words we could use to describe them. We did a letter J worksheet and got to spend some time outdoors this morning.

We're off to the North Pole this week, learning about the climate and the animals. We are still learning about our five senses and today we're talking about our sense of touch. We learned how tiny nerves in our fingers help us feel the difference between hot and cold, hard and soft, rough and smooth. We made soft fuzzy mittens in art, which we would definitely need if we lived in the North Pole! We got to spend some time outside this morning. No snow but it was pretty chilly.
We're continuing our five senses theme and talking about our sense of taste. We learned that our sense of taste not only helps us taste yummy things, but it also can help protect us by making spoiled foods taste yucky. We had a potty party for one of our friends and baked and decorated cupcakes for snack. We finished up the letter H today and did a letter H worksheet in art.
I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. We're spending lots of time outdoors today! We decorated paper christmas trees in art and baked banana bread to have for breakfast on Monday. In circle time we talked about how our sense of smell can protect us. For instance, if our food smells yucky it could mean it's spoiled, or if we smell smoke, there could be a fire.
Today we introduced our new theme, *My five senses*! We'll be learning all about our five senses and how they can help us. We started today with our sense of smell. We identified a variety of good smells and some not so good ones too. We made paper gingerbread men and painted them with cinnamon and nutmeg in art to make them smell good. We spent the afternoon outside enjoying the warm (for December) weather!
There's a whole lot of energy here today so we let the kids run some of it out in the backyard this morning. We made our first ornaments of the year to hang on our tree today and introduced the letter I. We also made I is for Iguana pictures in art to hang on our board. We switched over our calendars and did a brief overview of some of the fun things we'll be doing with our curriculum in December.
We did our first official batch of cookies today, making holiday M&M cookies. We finished up our November curriculum by doing some recap on the number 8 and rectangles. We made rectangle puppets in art and used those for a rectangle song in circle time. The kids got to go outside and play in the snow today and we will continue going out so long as the temperature is safe so please make sure your child has a full set of winter gear (hat, mittens, snow pants, winter boots and coat). Since the kids often get wet while playing outside, now is a good time to make sure you have a full spare change of warm weather clothing in your child's locker.
We read a book today about the true meaning of Christmas, that we celebrate because it's Jesus's birthday. The kids spent some time marveling at our nativity scene and we talked a little bit about what it would have been like if we had been born in the winter time out in a manger or barn. The kids all agreed that they are blessed to have warm homes in the winter. |
