I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time.
Welcome back friends! Everyone was excited to see each other after the long weekend. We got to hear about all your exciting adventures to the zoo, camping, children's museum and county fair! Lots of excitement as the kids were sharing with one another! Our imaginary travels took us to Kansas today and we learned the windiest county and the most center spot in the United States are both in Kansas! We played with wind today and had balloon races in front of a fan and made kites in art.

We're off to Illinois today and are learning about the busy city of Chicago with huge buildings and lots to do and see. We made skyscraper pictures in art and read our Robert the Rose Horse book, which has a reference to Chicago in it. We spent a ton of time outdoors today. The weather could not be more beautiful and the bugs have not been too bad.
**Reminder** We are closed Thursday and Friday this week. We're off to Indiana today and we learned that Indiana is home to the Indianapolis 500! We made our own race cars to hang on our bulletin board in art and used our toy cars to have races. We spent lots of time outside today. The kids were able to run and play for a long time now that it's not too hot out.
I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. **Reminder** We are closed Thursday and Friday this week. Thank you for making alternate arrangements for your child's care during this time. It's another hot and steamy day so we went outside first thing in the morning and spent most of the rest of our day indoors. We baked chocolate chip muffins and rotated in some new books and toys. We did some freestyle art today and the kids painted with watercolors.
**Reminder** We are closed Thursday and Friday next week, July 28th and 29th. We're celebrating a birthday today! Our little Evan is turning one and the kids are so excited to celebrate with him. We baked and decorated cupcakes and wrapped some presents. In lieu of art today, the kids wanted to do stencils and play dough, as well as some new puzzles. We went outside for short periods of time due to the heat and we're really pushing the water today to prevent dehydration. Since we weren't able to enjoy too much outdoor time today, we played some active indoor games and did lots of dancing.
We have a special visitor today! One of our graduates is back to visit and the kids are loving having a "big kid" around. We are off to Iowa today and we learned that there are more pigs in Iowa than people! We used white and red paint to make pink and used it to paint pigs in art. With the heat we spent some time in the sprinkler today and are taking lots of breaks. The kids played superheroes for over an hour indoors this morning. Lots of happy squeals today!
It's a quiet day here today so we're spending lots of time outside this morning. We finished our fish in the lake paintings in art and read lots of books today. The kids had lots of fun baking with water and sand in the sandbox and we got to see our new baby deer playing with his mommy in the backyard!
We're slowly getting back to normal around here after a week of illness. We are finally kicking off our state to state travel and we're starting right here at home, in Minnesota. We learned about all the lakes in Minnesota and how they were formed. The kids had lots to share about their own visits to lakes. We painted lakes for a fish in the lake project and spent lots of time outside today. We will have the sprinkler out all week to help us stay cool so please be sure to bring your child's swim suit and full change of clothing. I've posted the menu for the week so you can check that out when you have time.
**Reminder** We will be closed next Thursday and Friday, July 28th and 29th. These are unpaid vacation days. It's a quiet day today so we're doing some special things we normally don't get to do. We did a walkabout in the backyard and explored the area where the trees were all cut down and chopped up into bits. We inspected all of our fruit bushes and plants. The mosquitos have been hungry so the kids have been wearing bug spray, which has been working very good. We put some finishing touches on our projects we did last week now that they're dry. We did some stamping and organized some of our curriculum for the week.
The kids have really enjoyed being my helper today! We have had some sick friends the past few days so please keep an extra close eye on your little ones and watch for signs of illness. I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. We're learning more about what life was like for people the year America was born. The kids seemed so shocked to hear there was no electricity or cars or televisions back then. They were all very interested in this and asked lots of questions. We learned that there weren't any grocery stores to buy bread in so most families had to make bread if they wanted some and that's what we did, so they could get a feel for it. They had so much fun kneading the dough I don't think they would consider it a hardship like most of us would at this point. We also made red, white and blue cookies to send home and spent lots of time outside today.
