It's our halloween party today and we're having so much fun! We played some games and made capes, masks and magic wands in art. We dressed in costumes and played make believe throughout the morning. We will be decorating cupcakes at snack and painting pumpkins this afternoon. We also have treat bags to go home!

We finished up the number 6 today, which is our last number for October. We went through the remaining curriculum for this month and will be trying to squeeze as much in as possible the rest of this week. We used plastic orange plates and erasable crayon to make different faces on pumpkins and did lots of indoor dancing and playing since the rain kept us indoors.
We're getting into the Halloween spirit and making silly pumpkin hats in art today. We were able to spend some time outdoors and went on a letter F hunt. We baked some cookies today so the kids each have some to take home today. We also got our capes out and the kids were sent on various rescue missions throughout the morning.
We're starting our final theme for October today, capes and wings! It's all about dress up and halloween fun. We made pumpkin pictures in art and baked some chocolate chip muffins, which we will have for breakfast in the morning. We spent some time outdoors and the kids had lots of fun just playing together. I think they missed each other over the weekend!
I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. **Reminder*** Our halloween party is Thursday! Your child may wear a costume fro home but it is not necessary. We will be making masks and capes to dress up in! ***Reminder*** We will be closed next week, Monday October 31 - Friday, November 4. We will open again Monday, November 7th. Thank you for making alternate arrangements for your child's care during this time. We're continuing our discussion on fire safety and today the kids are having lots of fun practicing their stop drop and roll. We introduced the letter F today and made F is for Fire pictures in art. We also did a number 5 worksheet and brought our counting fuzzies out to practice counting to 5. We got to spend lots of time outside this morning but it is definitely a little chillier than yesterday so we are requiring them to keep their warm clothes on. We also had some big kids visiting today, some graduates who didn't have school today.
October is fire safety month and we're going to spend the next couple days in between themes to talk about fire safety. We do monthly fire drills here at Jen's house and we encourage you to carry out a drill at home, making sure the children know exactly where your designated meet spot is if one were to occur. Children often don't remember the details of what we say but they DO remember what they do, which is why regular practice is so important. Some of our discussion over the next couple days will include what a fire could look, smell and even sound like so they can identify one. We will be talking about stop, drop and roll and will really be stressing how important it is to go to our designated meeting spot and never re-enter a home or building that has smoke or fire, even if we think someone may still be inside. That's a job for our firemen who have the right tools to get people out! Sometimes these topics can create some concern and worry so we're also making sure the children know that these are rare occurrences and most people never experience anything like this in real life but it's best to prepare, so we could be safe in the unlikely event something did happen. We'll also be talking about 911 and the kids will be learning how to operate Jen's phone. I encourage you each to make sure your children (age 3+) know how to unlock and use a phone in your home.
We learned today how firemen sometimes use dogs to help them search buildings. We made dalmatian fire dogs in art and the kids practiced our fire escape plan. We also learned that smoke rises so if they are ever around a building that has smoke in it, they should stay low. They had lots of fun doing army crawls to practice! It turned out to be a beautiful day so we spent lots of time soaking up the fresh air. We learned more about what paleontologists do and the different tools they use to unearth dinosaur bones and other artifacts. We made paleontologist tool belts in art and finished up with the number four by finding things that come in groups of 4.
We're continuing to learn about dinosaurs and all sorts of prehistoric things! We introduced the letter E today, which was very exciting because we learned that almost all of our friends have the letter E in their names! We made E is for Earth pictures in art and got to spend some time outdoors.
I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. ***Reminder*** We are closed the week of October 31 - November 4th. Thank you for making alternate arrangements for your child during that time. We are stuck inside with the rain today so we're finding lots of ways to be active indoors. We did lots of dancing and the kids played duck, duck goose and bear hunt. We finished up the number 4 today with a worksheet and put some finishing touches on some art projects from the previous couple days. The kids were all pretty tired today and everyone was asleep by ten after one, which almost never happens!
***Reminder*** Tomorrow is apple pie day so your child will be coming home with an apple pie to bake at home. If you don't plan to bake it right away, please make room in your fridge or freezer! Thanks! It's another beautiful day and we were able to spend a great deal of it outdoors. Our shape this month is the triangle so we used triangles to finish our art projects from yesterday. We have been continuing our discussion on prehistoric times and learned how volcanos erupted and expanded land and how dangerous they could be for dinosaurs. We made volcanos in art today.
***Reminder*** Thursday is apple pie day! Your child will be making an apple pie to bring home that day and bake at home. Make some room in the fridge or freezer if you don't plan to bake it that night. =) |
