Have fun trick or treating tonight!
Happy Halloween! It's a quiet day at Jen's house so we're moving at the children's pace. The kids are still working on the corn for our sensory bin. We made Halloween wind socks in art and got to spend some time outside today but it was very cold! The games from our Halloween party were still out so the kids played with those again throughout the day.

It's our big Halloween party today! We baked and decorated cupcakes for snack, made masks for our Halloween parade and played some fun games and won prizes. I apologize in advance for your sugared up little ones but they sure had fun today!
We had some leftover apples from the orchard so we used it to bake apple bread today. We made a halloween picture in art using lots of different shapes, circles, an oval, squares, rectangles and triangles. We got to spend some time outside today and the kids were so much more comfortable with their warm clothes on.
***We will be having our Halloween party tomorrow instead of Friday so all our friends can be here for it. We will be making masks so no need to bring costumes. We don't want them to get ruined before Halloween! We're getting ready for our halloween celebration on Friday and painting out pumpkins today! Before we painted we inspected all the differences and similarities between all the different pumpkins in circle time. Even though each pumpkin grew in the same dirt and from the same kind of seed, each one was a little different and had different textures and shapes that made it special, just like each one of us.
We plucked our corn kernels for our sensory bin and finished our spider projects from yesterday that we didn't get done. ***We got to spend some time outside today and will continue to go out as much as possible. There were some cold hands today so the time has arrived to bring hat, mittens and warm clothing for your wee ones so they can play comfortably outside. Thank you! It's our apple pie day! We're using the apples we got from the orchard on Thursday to make apple pies. Each family will have one to take home today so make sure to get it before you leave!
We made spiders in art today to hang on our bulletin board. Our theme this week is *Trick or Treat*! We will be celebrating Halloween and all the spooky fun that goes along with it! I've posted the menu for the week so you can look at that when you have a chance. It's a quiet day here today so we're taking advantage of it and doing some laid back baking and snuggling. We baked banana bread for breakfast next week. We painted apples using cutouts in art and started cutting apples for our apple pies on Monday!
We got to play outside for a while today but it started to rain on us so we had to go back in. We fed our squirrels and birds today too because they were standing at the window telling us they were hungry this morning. The kids were counting down for weeks, waiting for our trip to the pumpkin patch/apple orchard and it was raining! We remained hopeful it would clear up enough for us to go and thankfully it did. We were only there for about an hour and didn't get to see the animals since it was too wet and muddy but we did get to pick out our pumpkins, gourds, corn, hay and apples, all of which we need for upcoming projects over the next week or two.
The kids got to hang with Brad for a couple hours this morning while Jen took Addie to an appointment. They were super excited! They started a project we will finish on Monday in art and did some coloring. They danced and helped organize the toy boxes which were all out of sorts.
They finished our letter D scavenger hunt and used books to find some of our trickier ones. We're exploring apples today! We had collected apples from our apple tree today and we dissected them this morning. We thought of lots of words to describe both the texture, smell and the way they looked on the inside and out. We spotted the path a worm took through one of the apples and we used apple halves to make apple prints in art.
We were supposed to have our costume pizza party today, and we had the pizza but the costumes didn't make it out because we got to spend almost all day outside! I told the kids we would bring them out on our next rainy day and they were happy to stay outside. What a beautiful day! The sun is shining and the kids are enjoying some fresh air! We finished up our fall fun theme but we will be continuing to feed our animals in the back yard. The kids are taking turns spreading cracked corn for the deer and bird seed for our birds and squirrels. We came back this morning and some animals ate the ENTIRE bird feeders we made last Wednesday. The kids were so surprised.
Today we introduced our new theme, Apples All Around which will compliment our field trip to the pumpkin patch and apple orchard on Thursday. We're learning all about apples, what they can be used for and who likes to eat apples. We collected some apples for our project tomorrow and made some apple trees for our bulletin board in art. Some reminders *** Tomorrow is take 2 for our costume pizza party. Most of our friends weren't able to be here when it was scheduled last week so we're trying again for tomorrow. You are welcome to let your child bring a costume but we have PLENTY here for them to use as well. I would discourage letting them wear their halloween costumes from this year as they may get ruined. Thursday is our field trip to the pumpkin patch for our 2+ crowd. We will leave at 9:30am. Please make sure your child has warm weather clothing. I let you know if you need to leave a carseat. We will be back by 9:30am. |
