*** Reminder*** Jen will be at a conference so Brad will be here with the kids Monday - Wednesday.
The kids are decorating their own homes in art today and they're sharing what kind of a home they would like to live in when they grow older in circle time. We have some very creative minds here, that's for sure! We used our pillows and blankets to build a home for all our babies today and spoke briefly about how homes are built. The kids got to spend some time outside today. The mosquitos have been awful this week so until further notice we will be applying bug spray to the kids before going out.

We're staring our new theme, *Homes We Live In*. We started out learning what all the kids thought made a home and talked a little bit about the different kinds of homes people and animals live in. We practiced writing the letter B with a worksheet and did some free art where the kids practiced using scissors safely.
We're finishing up our *I am special* theme today with a recap. Each child made a special star in art and we compared how different they each were in circle time. We took some paper and crayons outside and used the bark on the trees (bark starts with the letter B!) to do some texture shading. We did a recap of some of the new songs we learned with this theme and these kids amaze me with how well they were able to remember the words!
It looked like it was going to rain this morning so we're doing things a little out of order today. We went outside first and then had our preschool time. We made *I am special* necklaces in art and learned about how each of our friends have changed since they were babies and will continue to change as they grow bigger in circle time. We made predictions about what we thought all our friends might be when they grow up and the answers were so fun! We have one Anna, one Elsa, one pirate and one Spongebob in our future!
We also made homemade bread from scratch today. The kids used their hands to knead the dough and were excited to watch it rise! Today we're learning more about the letter B! We went on a letter B hunt outdoors to see how many things we could find that sound with the letter B. We made *B is for bumble bee* art projects in art and learned a new friend song in circle time.
The weather is absolutely gorgeous so we're spending as much time outside as possible. The sun pattern in our backyard is changing so the sandbox is no longer in the shade when we go out in the afternoons. We will be putting an extra layer of sunblock on the kids before we go out after nap so they may be a little more dirty and sticky when they come home. Today we went on a future hunt! We collected all sorts of plants and sticks and leaves to put in our sensory bin. We felt the different textures and learned some new descriptive words. We used some of them to make imprints in our play dough! We also baked some apple bread and spent some time outdoors.
It's a rainy morning so we're finding ways to stay busy indoors and hoping the sun stays out long enough so we can play outside before nap time. We introduced the letter B today and went on a letter B scavenger hunt. We made *me puppets* in art and used them to sing our *I am special* song in circle time. We also baked some banana bread that we'll have for breakfast tomorrow morning.
We're learning about texture today which will be a common topic through our preschool curriculum. Talking about different textures is a great way for children to learn new descriptive words while also growing their ability to verbally describe what their senses are telling them. Everyone felt their hair in circle time and we used some descriptive words to describe the texture of their hair and how everyone's was a little different and our differences are some of the things that make us special!
We used some different textures in art to make some crayon shadings so we could see the differences in the different textures. We got to play outside for quite a while this morning too! All our friends are here today for the first time in almost a week and they are so excited to see one another! We traced circles in art (circle is our shape this month) and practiced writing the letter A on a worksheet. We wrapped up the letter A in circle time with some review of what sounds the letter A makes and identified some words that start with the letter A. We played our *I am special* game with a twist, this time Jen got to name all the special things about the kids. They were all beaming by the end of circle time! We spent lots of time outside today as well enjoying the beautiful day!
Our friends are all healthy and back today and they were so excited to see each other this morning! Today we're making something special for our Grandparents in art since yesterday was Grandparents Day. We talked about our grandparents and what makes them special in art. We got to spend lots of time outside today. The weather was beautiful!
I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. |
