It's a short day and we have a lot to pack in this morning. We're finishing up our flossing game projects we started yesterday and the kids are learning all about how important flossing is to help keep our teeth and gums healthy. We did some organizing today since our blocks and puzzle pieces are in disarray after this week. We spent some time dancing and lots of time reading books.

Today we're finishing up the tooth necklaces we started yesterday and starting another project in art that the kids can use for a flossing game! We decorated cupcakes for Lydia's birthday party and read lots of new books! We also heard about one of our graduating child's trip to visit his new school in circle time.
Today we're learning all about brushing our teeth and why it's so important. We used white paint and toothbrushes to paint and brush yellow teeth for tooth necklaces in art. The kids were able to see how it can be hard to get all the nooks and crannies when brushing and that's why it's important to brush over each tooth numerous times. We talked a little bit about fluoride in our drinking water and all the drinks (juice, soda and other sugary drinks) that are hard on our teeth at circle time.
***Reminder*** We are closing at noon on Thursday. We will be closed through Monday, March 9th and will open again on Tuesday, March 10th. Thank you for making alternate care arrangements during this time. We started our new theme today. We will be learning all about good dental hygiene, brushing, flossing and what foods like our teeth and which ones want to give us cavities! We started out today learning about how we get our baby teeth, which are our practice teeth. We have to learn how to take good care of our teeth before they fall out and our permanent grown up teeth come in. We made mouths with cereal teeth in art and played some active games since it was too cold to go outside.
I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. ***Reminder*** We close at noon on Thursday and will be closed through Monday, March 9th. We will open again on Tuesday, March 10th. Thank you for finding alternate care arrangements during this time. Today we're learning about how important sleep is for our bodies and our hearts. The kids learned that their hearts are muscles and like all the other muscles in their bodies, they need rest so they can work properly. We talked about how much sleep they need each day and made pillows in art.
Today we're doing some more in-depth discussion about what kinds of foods are good for our hearts. We examined the My Plate divided into proper, healthy proportions. The kids were a little disappointed to see the vegetable portion bigger than the pizza section. We talked about some not so healthy food choices that are not good for our hearts and how important moderation is when eating. We made healthy heart books in art and did some dancing to get our heart rates up.
Today was supposed to be our winter olympics but it's too cold. We will reschedule when the temps are a little less brutal. Today we're baking another round of cookies to sell for Midwest Animal and Rescue Services. We're still talking about healthy hearts and healthy eating so we used broccoli to paint broccoli pictures in art. We read lots of books in circle including a new book about eating fruits and vegetables. The kids are brainstorming up ways to have fun while getting exercise.
We started our new theme today, *Healthy Hearts*. We learned about the love side of our hearts, now we learning about what our hearts do and how to keep them healthy. We talked a little bit about healthy eating and how that is important for keeping our hearts healthy. We made carrots to hang on our bulletin board. We played a game in circle time where we tried to get our hearts beating faster. The kids were really excited to know they can control how fast their hearts beat by getting exercise!
It's another freezing day today so we're staying warm inside. We baked some banana bread and some muffins to warm up our play space. We did a science experiment with strawberry jello, vinegar and baking soda. We played with our magna tiles and puzzles and organized our play room which was still in disarray after our crazy week last week!
I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. Today we're taking it easy. Yesterday it was a pretty crazy day and we all ran around trying to get all our fun Valentine stuff done. It's too cold to go outside so we stayed in and snuggled up with books. We finished our love mobiles and sold the rest of our cookies for our fundraiser for Midwest Animal and Rescue Service. We will bake more next week if you didn't get any and would like some. We brought some snow in side and the kids spent a ton of time building with the magna tiles today.
