I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time.
Welcome back friends! The kids were excited to share with the group details about their adventures over the holiday weekend and it sounds like you all made some fabulous memories! We are decorating for Christmas today and the kids couldn't be any more excited! We decorated our tree and brought out some of our other holiday decor. We read our Pete the Cat saves Christmas book in circle time today to kick off our Christmas season because the theme of that book falls right in line with our philosophy here; although we are small, at Christmas we give so we'll give it our all. We talked about ways we could help others and how giving is the best gift of all because it gives us the warm fuzzies. We made a list of friends and family who we'll be giving cookie trays to this year and finalized which treats we'll be putting in them. We also finished up with the letter H today and made H is for House pictures in art.
I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. We packed a whole lot into our day today. We're trying to pack a whole lot of curriculum into our final days of November. We introduced the letter H and did a letter H worksheet. We made fall wreaths for Thanksgiving in art and actually got to spend some time outside today! The weather was beautiful!
I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. ***Reminder*** We are closed Thursday and Friday this week. Wow! What a busy week! I finally told Brad to hold the fort down for a bit so I could get the website updated. I've fallen behind with all our Prince/Princess activities this week along with food program visits and all sorts of other fun things that have taken up my nap times, which is normally when I get a chance to get these things done.
So today we're continuing our Princess Party since the kids were NOT ready top put the dresses away. Our crowns were dry so those were on top of their royal heads all day. We made medieval masks in art and talked a little bit about the different stations people used to be classified in many, many years ago. We also decided that instead of filling our brown boxes with all sorts of brown things we should just fill them with brownies, so we did some baking and those treats can go home today. We got to spend a little time outside today but it sure was chilly. We found ice! Please make sure you have warm coats, hats and mittens so little hands and ears can stay warm. It's our Prince and Princess pizza party today! The kids have been counting down the days for over a week and are so excited to dress up. We dressed up, made fancy crowns in art and had a royal ball where the kids showed me some elegant dance moves that included lots of bows and twirls!
It's another inside day today. We're starting our new theme today and learning all about royalty! We're learning about Kings and Queens and castles and crowns. We used our art supplies to do a crown worksheet. We also introduced the number seven, which is Jen's favorite number! We practiced counting with our fuzzies and did lots of inside dancing and active play to burn some of the energy.
It's a rainy, dreary day today so we're stuck inside. We having some fun with the color brown today, which is our color for the month of November. We used brown paint to make brown boxes, that we will fill will brown things. We went on a color brown hunt and also introduced the letter G! We made G is for Goose art to hang on our bulletin board and played duck, duck goose in circle time.
Today we're learning about the different animals that live in Norway! The kids were SO excited to hear reindeer live there. We made arctic fox headbands in art and played a game pretending to be arctic fox and arctic hare. We also introduced the letter G today and Brad brought his guitar down and sang some silly songs with the kids. We tried Norwegian creamed cabbage with our lunch today and you can probably guess how well that went over. :-)
Today we learned that some of the most popular trades in Norway involve fishing, which was music to Brad's ears. I let him lead circle today and I had to get him back on track a couple times as he started dreaming out loud about how wonderful his life would be in Norway if he could fish everyday...ha ha. We learned that fish is a popular food in Norway too and they find many ways to prepare it. We painted fish in art and the kids actually got to play outside for over an hour this morning. We stayed inside this afternoon and the kids got to try lefse for snack. A couple of them unrolled the lefse and expressed concern that their taco was empty. :-)
Today we learned about the climate in Norway! We learned about the mountains and how cold it gets, especially in the winter months high up in the mountains. We learned about the fjords and used a long cardboard box (which is a rectangle, our shape for November!) and did a group project in art using markers and stickers to transform it into a cruise ship. The kids took turns in the cruise ship while watching video of a boat going through the fjords. Their attention spans were quite short today after our busy day yesterday so we only made it half way through our Norwegian folk tale before throwing the towel in. They were excited to try the Norwegian butter cookies for snack today though!
We're celebrating a birthday today!!! Our little Micah turned one and we're baking and decorating cupcakes to have at snack. The kids are helping me wrap presents and they've been practicing singing the happy birthday song!
We're off to Norway this week and the kids are super excited to try some of the Norwegian foods we have on our menu. We learned a little bit about the climate in Norway and talked about some of the things we'll be doing this week to explore the country. We finished up the number 6 today and we baked another batch of banana bread. I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. |
