We're having a costume pizza party today and the excitement level is off the charts! We also used white paint to paint snowmen in art and baked a new blueberry muffin recipe. We used the frozen balloons to color white paper so the kids may go home with some funky colored hands today!

We're still learning about all the animals that live in the cold weather and today we learned about whales. We looked at pictures of whales diving in the cold icy waters. We made jumping whale puppets in art and did a color white worksheet. We baked some muffins for breakfast later this week and got to go outside twice today!
*** Reminder **** Tomorrow is our costume pizza party! Your child may bring a costume from home or wear one of ours. We're learning about the letter N today! We went on a letter N hunt and made N is for nest pictures in art. We also practiced our scissor skills and made puzzles. We brought some snow inside to play with this morning and played some active indoor games to burn some energy. We'll be spending as much time outdoors as possible this afternoon.
I have your 2015 tax statements ready to go home. Please look these over and if you notice any discrepancies, let me know right away. I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. ***Wednesday is our Costume Pizza Party! Your child may bring a costume from home or wear one of ours. We have an old friend visiting today and the kids are so excited! Lots of squealing and screeching going on! We made snowmen in art and did a number 11 worksheet. We baked cookies for a tea party we'll have for afternoon snack. We froze some water and food coloring in balloons and the kids are excited to open the balloons this afternoon to see what the inside will look like. We have cookies to go home today so be sure to grab those on your way home!
We finished up the letter M today with a letter M coloring project. We stuffed our snowmen projects with popcorn and made snow globes in art. We have been working really hard on practicing our kind words and good friend skills, which can be so hard to remember sometimes, so that was our group discussion in circle time today.
Today we're learning all about octagons, which is our shape this month. In case I didn't mention it to you, our preschool curriculum came with a mistake this month and all our octagon shapes and octagon projects were actually hexagons! They caught it right away and sent an apology but they didn't send new shapes so we're having to make our own. The kids learned to count sides on the octagons to help identify what shape it was. We made snowmen faces in art and the kids have been really excited about puzzles lately so those were out quite a bit today.
It's another inside day today (sad face) so we're dancing and playing duck, duck goose and bear hunt to burn some energy. We baked a huge batch of banana bread today, four loaves and we'll freeze those for breakfast in the coming weeks. We started an ice skating penguin project in art and put together a new feeder for the deer and backyard animal friends. We talked about how hard it can be for them to find food in the winter because the ground is covered in snow. They are super excited to take turns filling the feeder!
Brrr! It's another cold one outside today so we're staying indoors and having a *summer in winter* party! We cranked the heat and baked some banana bread this morning to get it nice and steamy in here so the friends who brought summer clothes were comfortable. We brought out our beach towels and pretended we were at the beach. We played a game with beach balls and made sunny summer pictures in art. We talked about some of the differences we see, hear, feel and smell in the summer vs. winter in circle time.
I've posted the menu so you can have a look at that when you get a chance. Between sick kids and families heading out of town for the long weekend, we have a very small group today! We're taking advantage of it and spending some one on one time with the kids. We also did lots of disinfecting today, including the walls and got some organizing done. We brought out some new books and cycled in some toys we haven't played with in a while. We did lots of reading throughout the day and brought snow inside to play with. We got outdoors in the afternoon and painted snowy pictures in art.
We also baked cookies for an afternoon tea party at snack! We've got lots of little ones fighting the nasty cough so we're moving at a slower pace than usual today. We made polar bears in art and learned some fun facts about polar bears, like where they live, what they eat and how they survive in such cold weather. We baked some muffins that we'll have for breakfast in tomorrow morning.
