Happy Spring Break!!!
It's beach week and to kick it off we took down all of our jungle decorations and hung fish we made on our bulletin board. We made bird feeders for some blue jays that are building a nest outside our window and played a fish game where we swam around the ocean (our circle time rug) catching smaller fish for dinner. I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. We will be having our beach day luau on Wednesday. Your child may bring a beach towel from home or use one

Today we are finishing our weather theme by painting suns puppets! We're talking about the power of the sun. How it warms the earth, provides vitamin D and melts can even be dangerous if we don't protect our skin from the sun when it's extra strong.
We're talking all about extreme weather today! We learned about tornados and hurricanes, thunder and lighting and how even wind can be so strong sometimes it can pull trees right out of the ground. We surveyed the damage in our backyard from the blizzard last month and noticed looked for all the branches that were knocked down or snapped.
We made lightning pictures in art today and talked about storm safety. We got to spend some time outside but it was colder than we thought so we didn't last too long. Today we discussed cold weather and how it changes our outdoor environment. We talked about cold weather safety and made mittens in art. We got to play outside for a while today.
We also worked on the number 16 today and practiced counting to 16 with our counting fuzzies and did a number 16 activity sheet. We're talking all about weather this week. It seems like everyday the weather changes. One day it's nice and the next it's snowing again! We made weather dials in art today to hang on our bulletin board. We talked about how the weather is changing now that it's spring and how much more it has to change before flowers can grow and leaf buds start forming on the trees.
We used the rose petals off my beautiful birthday flowers to make pictures of flowers to celebrate the start of spring. We spent some time outside today. It's Friday fun day and we're having our Frozen party! The kids are so excited. We popped popcorn and they got to watch Frozen upstairs on the big tv with the surround sound on. We had to make it a somewhat educational experience (teachable moments, right mom and dad...ha ha ha) so we talked about ice and and what it takes for water to freeze. This was a topic we covered some earlier this year and the kids remembered! We also talked about what those big chunks of ice could be used for.
We got an hour outside before lunch today and we are having a special treat with our snack today that Lydia brought to share. Blue jello cubes (ice)! Today we are continuing Jungle Week and learning all about snakes! We made snakes in art and played a game where we were snakes hissing and slithering through the jungle gobbling up mice (our counting fuzzies). We also made a "blue book" in art. Our color this month is blue so we went on a blue hunt and found lots of blue things in our play space.
We got to spend over an hour outside this morning. It was beautiful! Tomorrow we are having our frozen party. Your children can wear any Frozen or princess related clothing or they can just wear their PJs if they like. The big kids will get to watch Frozen upstairs on the big TV with popcorn. We're learning all about tropical birds today! We watched a small part of the movie Rio to see what kind of environment tropical birds live in. We used bright colored feathers and Styrofoam bowls to make tropical birds in art.
We learned about some different types of tropical birds, where they live and what they eat in circle time. Then we pretended to be Macaws and tried eating "bird food" (sunflower seeds and fruit). We spent half an hour outside today. It's jungle week! We started out the day by talking about what it looks like inside the jungle. We hung vines from the ceiling and scattered our snakes in the "pond" (our circle time rug). We made jungle pictures with tropical birds to hang on our bulletin board.
We're learning about tropical birds in circle time and reading a book about toucans before bed. We got to spend some time outside this morning. It sure is nice getting fresh air on a regular basis! Happy St Patricks Day! Today we made leprechaun hats in art and pot of gold rainbow pictures to hang on our bulletin board. We also decorated shamrocks and talked about luck. We got to spend some time outside today and will be having shamrock cookies for snack today.
I've posted the menu for the week so you can check that out when you have time. |
