The next week is going to be trying with our new kitchen being put in. The majority of the work will be done while the children are not here but without a kitchen for the first part of next week we will have to improvise. As always, the safety of the kids comes first and I will make sure that they do not have access to the areas under construction. Thank you in advance for your patience in the next week!
Today is our big three ring circus! The kids were so excited to put on a show and we were very excited to watch. They had many fancy tricks to show us and they tried very hard to teach Daisy some new tricks but she wasn't a very willing participant. They took turns pretending to be lions and doing tricks like jumping through the hoops. We are also starting the prep for our construction and the kids helped me take things down for the wall. We brought out some new books to read today and played outside for a while. Since our kitchen is a mess we decided to just order pizza today instead of fettuccini like we had planned.

Today we drew self portraits and decorated our pictures to make ourselves the star of the show. We also did some work in our workbooks. The kdis are making plans for our big circus tomorrow. We got new hula hoops today and the kids were so excited to try them out. They will be the rings in our three ring circus tomorrow.
The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day so we spent lots of time outside. Today we had a quiet day with only four children in daycare! The sun was shining so we spent most of the day outside which the kids (and I) have needed! We made a group painting outside that will be hung on the wall once the work is done. If you haven't noticed, I have four poster board paintings on my wall. These were done by different children over the past 8 years who have come to Jen's for daycare. Our current group will now have one for our wall too!
Today we did a page in our workbooks and practiced the letter U. One of the words we discovered was "under" which is very fitting for our circus theme as we will be going "under" the big top this friday ourselves and putting on our own circus! There is a chance that some kids will have red noses so if you prefer your child not have any face paint, let me know before Friday! Today we made circus tents on paper using colorful streamers. We talked about how a circus is often under a huge tent called "the big top" and we are still talking about the things we could see at a circus.
We switched over our curriculum for the week and our new letter is U. We will be working on the number 16 and the color purple this month as well. I have posted the spring newsletter so please read that when you have time! Today we finished up working on the letter T. We went on a letter T hunt and wrote down all the T words we could think of on our white board. Our new theme this week is *going to the circus* which is going to be super fun! The kids made clowns today for our bulletin board and we talked about some things we might see at a circus at circle time.
I am so sorry I didn't get this updated last week! We were very busy, here is a run down of what we did. Our winter olympics were Tuesday - Friday. The kids worked together to come up with events that included car races, pillow case races, silly dance competition, bucket bean bag toss and horse races with our stick horses. We were hoping to have some outdoor events but the rain got in our way. We concluded our Olympics with an awards ceremony on Friday where everyone got a chance to be first place, second place and third place.
We were also continuing our healthy eating theme which worked nicely with our Olympics. It gave us an opportunity to reinforce healthy eating and drinking habbits. The kids made water cups and we talked about how important water is and how much water our bodies need. We made healthy eating plates and sampled different veggies (this didn't go over so well..ha ha ha) and we made *I'm a healthy eater* badges for the kids to wear. We worked on the letter T and the number 16. The kids are really getting good at counting. Once again, I am so sorry I didn't get this updated! I have updated the menu for the week so you can look at that anytime. Today we had a visit from a leprachaun! That sneaky leprachaun hid treats all over the house in the silliest places! The kids had fun searching all over the house this morning and then we went outside where they found little pots of gold with treats inside. We baked cookies today and decorated them with green frosting and we used skittles to make rainbows on them. We got to spend some time outside this morning and read our special St. Patricks Day book.
Tomorrow is the start of our Olympics. Please make sure you child has tennis shoes since we will be having races! Today we spent lots of time outside. We made St. Patricks Day collages and planned our St. Patricks Day party for Monday. We started talking about our Olympics coming up next week. Today we also celebrated Jessie's birthday! We spent time looking for all the green things both inside and out.
Another beautiful day today and we are making the most of it. We played some games outside and spent lots of time outdoors today. We are getting ready for St. Patricks Day by making pot of gold art projects for our bulletin board. We will be celebrating St. Patricks day on Monday this year since it falls on a weekend. Make sure to wear green on Monday!
Our winter olympics starts next Tuesday so we will be getting ready for that the rest of this week. The kids each have to come up with a game or sport and they will each be in charge of that game. It will be a fun week and we should be able to do a lot of it outside! Holy cow was it beautiful out today! We spent hours playing in the sun and getting fresh air. We are still talking about healthy choices and healthy eating and today we cut different foods out of magazines and made food collages on paper plates to hang on our bulletin board. The kids talked about their favorite foods and we talked about sweets today and why we should limit how many we have. The USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program reccomends limiting sweets to no more than twice a week.
One other thing the Food Program has recently changed is a new rule regarding milk. All children over the age of two must drink 1% low fat or skim milk to limit their fat intake. If a parent would like their child to drink 2% or whole milk they must bring a statement from their doctor saying the child can drink the higher fat milk. |
