Today we are talking about raccoons! We made raccoon handprints in art today mixing white and black to make the color grey. We talked about what raccoons eat and how they are nocturnal coming out at night to find food. We spent lots of time outside today and used our binoculars to look for raccoons in the woods.

Today we finished making our binoculars in art so we could scope out some different animals in the woods. We talked about porcupines and how they use their quills to defend themselves. We went on a color red hunt and found all sorts of things that are the color red both inside and out.
Today we started our "Friends in the Woods" theme. We will be learning all about the animals that live in the woods. Today we talked about deer. We've had 3-4 bucks coming to our apple tree every day so the kids are very familiar with our deer. We talked about what they like to eat and where they sleep. We made deer puzzles in art today.
The menu is posted for the week so you can check that out when you have time. Today we finished our plant theme by doing some planting. We planted the peach pits and apple seeds from last week and we also planted some flower seeds. We studied the seeds and wrote down all the differences. Some were big, some were small, some were bumpy and some were smooth. We have started a daily chart so we can track the progress of our seeds.
We talked about all the things seeds need to grow into plants. We put our seeds in the window so it could have sunshine and air. The kids watered the plants so the seeds could drink. We talked a little bit about the types of plants that are in the woods and how some of the plants like poison ivy can make us itchy if we touch them. Today we used the plants we collected yesterday to make a plant collage. We did a circle enrichment sheet and talked about water and why plants need water to grow.
Tomorrow we will be planting the seeds we collected from our fruit last week. Please make sure your child is wearing clothes that can get dirty! Today we went on a circle hunt! We looked around inside and out to see how many circles we could find. We made a circle by holding hands and played ring around the rosey at circle time. We decorated paper pages using our stencils and collected all sorts of plants in the backyard.
Today we followed up our discussion about the sun and how it helps plants grow. We painted happy yellow suns in art today and sang our Mr. Sun song in circle time. We also talked about the importance of sun screen.
We're celebrating a birthday today! Keaton turned four over the weekend so today we are baking and decorating cupcakes.
We are starting our plants theme this week and are making flower pots with pretty flowers in art. We're counting how many different plants we can find in our backyard and learning about how the sun is important for plants. Today we are finishing our fruits theme and doing some baking! We baked cinnamon croissants for breakfast and then we made individual apple pies using the apples from our tree. The kids helped peel them and mix the cinnamon and sugar. We baked them and tried them at snack. We spent lots of time outside today!
Another beautiful day today so we spent most of our morning outside and had a picnic lunch! We even read our before naptime books outside.
Today we talked about apples! We made apple pie books and dissected an apple looking at all the different parts. We saved some seeds to plant and will work on that next week. |
