What a beautiful day! We got to spend lots of time outside getting some fresh air and playing in the sun. We baked apple bread and planted some more seeds. The kids have been really into the magna tiles and have spent lots of time building homes for all the my little ponies and puppies.

Happy spring break! We will be celebrating beach week later this week but first we're going to finish up our *growing seeds* theme. We've been planting corn, cucumbers, tomatoes and flowers. We have various seeds in our sensory bin the kids are inspecting with magnifying glasses. We're learning about how plants grow from a tiny seed and how what they need to grow. We dissected our a couple different fruits to see if we could find seeds inside and we didI!
I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. Our color this month is green and with St. Patricks Day, we're going green all week long! We're going to try some new green foods and find lots of ways to implement the color green in our lesson plans.
We got to spend lots of time outside today and went on an outdoor color green scavenger hunt! We made shamrock necklaces in art to wear tomorrow so all the kids will be sporting a little green. I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time today. Today we got to spend over an hour outside this morning! We did an experiment in circle time using a flashlight and some of our animals to show how the suns rays hit the earth directly in summer and are more spread out in winter so the kids could see how much more "sun" was shining on our animals during the summer. We finished our summer/winter sun projects we started yesterday in art.
Today we're learning about how the sun impacts the temperatures we feel outside differently in winter and summer. We learned the earth's axel is tilted in the winter causing the sun rays to hit the earth at an angle in the winter. In the summer, the rays hit us more directly causing them to be stronger even though the sun if further away. That's also why we need to use sunblock in the summer!
We started a winter/summer sun project in art and got to spend lots of time outside. For the rest of the week, we're going to be learning about the sun so we painted suns to hang on our bulletin board in art today. We played a hot/cold sun game in circle time and read a book about spring. We got to spend some time outside today and it's very muddy! The kids are enjoying it though and making mud pies and pretend "chocolate milk" with buckets of muddy water!
Welcome back friends! The kids are so excited to see one another it's been challenging to pull them into our planned activities. With the weather so beautiful, we're going to start our spring has sprung theme a little early! We're learning all about the thaw that happens each spring and how it impacts plants, animals and all our surroundings. We colored a flower picture today in art and learned about how flowers sprout up when the sun gets stronger and the days get warmer in circle time. We got to spend lots of time outside today and will be spending as much time as possible outdoors while the weather is nice.
*** It will be very muddy with the melting snow so please make sure your child has an full extra change of clothes and is wearing clothes that can get dirty. |
