Today is also Arbor Day, so we're learning about trees! We made trees in art and finished up with the color yellow. We put finishing touches on our gifts for our friends and spent lots of time outdoors today!
We're saying goodbye to some special friends today with a going away party. We baked and decorated cupcakes and presented them with some special parting gifts for them to remember us by. We will be staying in touch and mailing them one more special thing in a week or so.

It's a rainy day so we're indoors this morning trying to burn some energy dancing and singing. We had an extra Earth Day project left over that we did in art and used this opportunity to talk about friendship and how we can be friends and show kindness with people from all parts of the world. We are still working on our special projects for our friends who are moving, working on our weather journals and we did some baking today as well.
It's costume pizza party today and the kids are so excited to be dressing up in our costumes! We noticed rain will likely be coming this afternoon after checking our radar so we're spending some time outdoors this morning while we can. We had a leftover W is for Watermelon project we did in art and did some work in our weather journals. We are preparing some special gifts for our friends who will be moving on at the end of this week. We can't wait to surprise them!
It's a little gloomy outside but that didn't stop us from going outdoors to play. The changing weather is perfect for our April Showers theme this week as it give the kids a chance to see how different clouds can look and observe changes in the temperature, humidity and precipitation for their weather journals. We made umbrellas in art to hang on our bulletin board and baked banana bread together.
We're still working on our April Showers theme this week and will be learning about the way whether varies. Today we made weather journals in art, which we'll be updating throughout the week, and looked at a weather radar to see how the clouds and storms move from one area to the next. We got to spend lots of time outside and finished up with the letter W.
I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. **Wednesday is our Costume Pizza Party - Your child may bring a costume from home or wear one of ours. It was a very exciting day today with the news crew here in the morning. The kids did such a great job, I was so proud of them. We are also celebrating Earth Day, which the kids were VERY excited about until they realized we were celebrating EARTH day and not a BIRTHDAY. No cupcakes for Earth Day but we did paint beautiful earth pictures in art and learned about the importance of recycling and planting trees.
We're learning all about Germany and simultaneously working on our theme, *April Showers*. Today we listened to some children speaking german online to hear the differences in dialect and accent. We made a German lunch (which was NOT a hit!) and used droppers and paint in art to make raindrop paintings. We spent some time outdoors this morning.
We're off to Germany today and the rest of this week! I'm not going to lie, the kids are usually super excited about our imaginary travels but they haven't caught Germany fever just yet. They did enjoy baking German vanilla moon cookies this morning, which we had for snack this afternoon. We learned some fun facts about Germany and found it on a map - it's all the way across the ocean! One of our friends has been to Germany to visit family there so she shared some stories of her real travels there.
We got to spend time outside this morning and a short time this afternoon before the rain started to fall. The kids were extra sleepy today with all the fresh air we got yesterday and the weather man said we'd have rain all day so we planned an indoor day today but after breakfast we noticed the rain had stopped so we quickly went outside to play before it started back up again. It didn't. We ended up playing outside until after 11 and finally came in to work on our curriculum. We introduced our new theme today, *April Showers*, which I thought was perfect timing since it was supposed to rain all day. We did a raindrop number worksheet and learned that there were different kinds of clouds and not all clouds mean rain. We ended up staying inside and doing some more quiet activities since the kids have been extra tired.
What a beautiful day! We spent more than four hours outdoors today and it felt so good to be outside without coats and hats and snow pants on! Now that the sun is getting stronger, we're using sun block and the kids may be a little extra sticky and dirty (and tired!) when you pick them up at the end of the day. We finished up our bees and birds theme today. We made watched a video of a bee pulling nectar from a flower and made flowers in art for our bees we made last week.
