Today we made tree pictures showing the difference of the way trees look in the fall and then in the winter. We used glitter for the snow and ice and talked about how we can feel the temperature dropping. We did an enrichment page in the workbook and

Today we practiced writing the letter E in our workbooks. We made beautiful fall trees with red, yellow and orange leaves. We went on a leaf hunt and collected different leaves from the backyard. We will be using these leaves to make fall leaf necklaces tomorrow.
I have the menu posted for the week so you can check that out. As most of you already know, I am scheduled to have knee surgery on November 2nd. I will not be closing any days as a result of this surgery. Between Jessie and Brad one one of them will be here at all times until I am back on my feet. If you have any concerns about this, please let me know. Today we made harvest suns with fake wheat and coffee filters. We talked about how the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder. The kids are really having a great time playing in the leaves and we are spending lots of time outside while we still can.
This week we are talking about leaves falling from the trees and some of the changes we see in the fall. We raked a pile of leaves in the backyard and talked about how the leaves dry up and fall off. We talked about how squirrels and other animals use the leaves to build homes and stay warm during the winter. We started switching over our curriculum today and will be working on the let
Today we made dalmation dog puppets. The kids are loving their dog headbands and continued to play "rescue dog". We did a science experiment using a glass jar and a small piece of paper to show how fire needs oxygen to stay lit. When we closed the lid on the jar, the little fire went out. This also showed the kids how the smoke rises to the top and illistrated why we need to crawl along the floor if there was ever smoke in the house.
We went on a letter D hunt and wrote down all the D words we could think of. I wanted to give everyone a heads up that I am scheduled to have my knee surgery on November 2nd. I don't believe I will have to close at all for this. Jessie will be working extra hours and Brad will be rearranging his schedule for the first couple week Today we continued our discussion about fire safety. We talked about how some fire stations and police men use dogs to help them save people. We made dalmation head bands with puppy dog ears and the kids used their imaginations to be fire dogs. They rescued each other and put their noses to the ground and sniffed out the missing friends. Dog also happens to start with the letter D which we are working on this week and the dots on the dalmations are black which is the color we are working on now.
The kids got a big surpise today when two big ladder fire trucks and a fire marshal were called to the neighbors house we were able to watch them from the backyard and talked about the masks and heavy gear firemen must wear to protect themselves. We didn't see a fire so I believe everythi Today focused on fire safety. We did a fire drill and talked about having a fire plan for home as well. We made a fire safety art project and learned about stop, drop and roll. The kids had a lot of fun practicing stop drop and roll and continued to practice for most of the afternoon! We also practiced crawling on the floor the way you would need to crawl should there be smoke in the ho
Today we spent the day talking about safety. The kids made safety badges and got to wear them while they were being safe but had to take them off if we caught them doing something that was not safe (climbing on the chairs, running in the house etc). We went on a safety hunt through the house and found things that were safe (safety locks on the doors, fire extinguisher) and things that were unsafe (medicines in the cupboards, matches...all out of the childrens reach of coarse). We also started working in our new workbooks and practiced the let
Today we switched over to the new curriculum for Ocotber. We have some fun themes this month starting with safety! Today we talked about what the stoplight colors mean and then made red light/green light sticks. We played red light / green light and started talking about safety. We finished up our workbook
Today we finished up our prehistoric theme with pterodactyl puppets! We talked about the loud screams they made. We also had an extra long circle time today because the kids were really excited to sing! Just a quick reminder that next Tuesday is bike day.
