Today we're finishing up some of our Valentine projects that we didn't get done yesterday. We used pink paper (pink is our color this month!) to make hearts (hearts are our shape this month!), which we decorated. We finished up our love signs and finished up our paper hearts for mom and dad.

Happy Valentines Day! We're celebrating with games and treats and we're making some special projects in art today to share with people we love. We finally got to go outside today! We learned a new valentine song and read some of our valentine books. We baked and decorated cookies, which we'll enjoy at snack today.
Nita will be joining us on Thursday this week instead of today. We were stuck inside this morning due to a large pool of ice and water forming in our play area outdoors. We are working to remove as much as possible so we can safely play outside the rest of the week. We played catch up with our theme this morning and spent the day talking about happiness. We made happy headbands in art.
There is a spring newsletter posted and I've printed a copy for everyone to take home as well. Some planned fun days are listed in there as well as all of our vacation/holiday closings for 2017. Please take time to read through that and let me know if you have any questions. I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you get time. *** Tomorrow is our Valentine Party! Remember that if you do choose to bring treats to share, to check the label closely to make sure it doesn't contain or was processed in a facility with peanuts. ****Please check the newsletter for information about Nita Higgins, a child care professional substitute who will be coming to assist me on a bi-weekly basis (as an assistant, not a substitute) starting tomorrow! We're very excited to have the extra set of hands! Our fairly tale today is the Little Red Hen! We read our Little Red Hen book and talked about why it was fair that the little red hen got to eat the bread she made all by herself and how important it is to contribute to the work if we want to enjoy the fruits of labor. We baked our gingerbread today, and everyone helped so we all will get to enjoy it at snack today. We got to play outside but it was much colder than yesterday so we lasted less than half an hour. We also made little red hens in art.
We got to spend lots of time outside today and we brought outside indoors when we colored snow in the kitchen! We made gingerbread men in art and read our gingerbread story. Our plan was to bake gingerbread for snack but we ran out of time so we'll do that tomorrow. We finished up the letter 12 today and the kids played so well together today. Lots of smiles and giggles though out our morning!
We've had a busy couple weeks as we finished up our first theme for the month of January and took an imaginary trip to France last week! We'll be playing catch up the rest of this week to finish our January curriculum before we dive into February's next week! We introduced our final theme today, Once Upon a Time, where we'll be learning all about fairly tales! We'll be having a Costume Pizza party on Friday to cap off our fairly tale week as well!
Today we did some freestyle art and made K is for Key pictures, even though we've already finished with the letter K, we had this old project that we never got done so we used it as an opportunity to revisit the letters we've already worked through. We got to play outside for a while this morning and the kids had lots of fun playing in the tent together this morning! I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. We're having snow much fun today! We tried going out for a short time this morning but it was pretty wet so we had some indoor snow fun instead. We made pretend snowballs using coffee filters, which we will use for snowball fights this afternoon. We made snowmen in art and talked about why water freezes when the temperature drops.
We got to spend some time outdoors this morning before the freezing rain started and the kids had a blast in the snow! We weaved mittens in art and the kids did some freestyle art as well practicing their cutting skills with scissors.
I've posted the menu for the week so you can have a look at that when you have time. ***Reminder*** We are closed Thursday and Friday this week. We're stuck inside once again and hoping that next week really does warm up so we can get back outside every day. We are still learning about the cold weather and all the warm clothes we need to be warm and safe in the freezing temperature. Today we read The Three Little Kittens Who Lost Their Mittens and when the kids wake up, they will need to help the kittens find the hidden mittens. When they do, they will have pie for snack! We made kitten puppets in art and introduced the octagon, which is our shape this month.
We're stuck inside today with the sub-zero windchill so we're doing some baking to warm up. We baked four loaves of banana bread today, which we'll have for breakfast tomorrow. We talked about snow and learned that no two snowflakes are exactly alike, just like all of our friends. Each one has something different that makes them special. We made sparkly snowflakes in art and the kids spent lots of time playing together today. We're working on problem solving so as the kids encounter a problem, we're working with them to help find a solution rather than fixing it for them. These problem solving skills are very important and help them become independent thinkers. It's fun watching them search for possible ways to solve problems. They are all so brilliant and have such unique and fun ideas!
